Publishing Highlights 2003

The book "Eleven minutes"is number one on the list of the most sold in the world in 2003. It sold more than four million copies, translated into 37 languages. It reached the top of the list of the most sold, overcoming the other bestsellers such as Harry Potter, and The King of Torts.
"The Alchemist"was in sixth place on the list. Published in 1988, the book sold 27 million copies and was translated into 53 languages.
Paulo Coelho is the only writer who was able to place two titles on the list of most sold books in the world, at the same time, according to data published by Publishing Trends.
Publishing Trends is a monthly bulletin published by the industry of Market Partners International. Market Partners consults the list of the most sold books in different countries, and it elaborates a monthly list according to the statistical data. The annual list is elaborated starting from the information picked up by the 12 previous monthly lists. Publishing Trend’s prestige is globally recognized; therefore, it is one of the largest and most important sources of information of the editorial universe.

The Wizard In The Guiness Book

Congratulations Paulo Coelho:
On the night of October 10, 2003, Friday, the writer Paulo Coelho beat the world record, entering the "Guinness Book of World Records"as the author that autographed, in one single night, the largest number of translations of one single book.
He autographed, no less than 52 editions of the book "The Alchemist". The record was set at 19h40min.
The first book autographed by Paulo was the Portuguese edition and the last was the Taiwanese.
The event took place at the International Book Fair of Frankfurt in Germany from 19:00 to 20h30min.

The Alchemist - The Movie

Warner Bros. has chosen "Matrix"star Laurence Fishburne, to write, direct and star in "The Alchemist". The film is scheduled to be released in 2004. There is talk about other main stars including the Pop star Madonna and Jeremy Irons.
